2020 Product Review – Platinum Hydro Whey by Optimum Nutrition

Protein shakes are a great way of getting some easy to digest protein into your body along with other essential vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.

While protein shakes can be a part of a healthy diet, you can’t drink a protein shake and expect to get healthy. You need to eat nutritious foods, refrain from overindulging in calorie-dense foods, and lift weights.

If you can consistently eat decent and you go to the gym regularly, protein shakes may be able to help improve your recovery and increase muscle growth and bigger lifts. It’s not a miracle supplement, but protein is the building block of muscles.

Protein shakes; a staple in any gym rat’s diet. I have had two different flavors and will give input on both flavors.

Review:

Optimum Nutrition has always been a protein powder that other gym goers would recommend to me and there is a good reason. This is a high quality protein and it tastes great. Platinum hydro whey is a special hydrolyzed whey that digests much faster than whey isolate. A regular whey isolate gets into your system in roughly  30 minutes while hydrolyzed whey is within minutes.

Optimum Nutrition’s whey gold standard isolate has 24 grams of protein per scoop to the hydro whey’s 30 grams.  Most of the nutrition is the same between the two, the selling point is the fast digesting and lower carbohydrates which is supposed to help your growth hormone production higher post workout while still getting protein in to help combat the catabolic effects of heavy training.

Overall I give this product a 4/5.

Flavors:

Velocity Vanilla: Vanilla is a great flavor to have with water, but when you use milk the flavor is great. Almost like a milk shake.

Supercharged Strawberry: Strawberry is an okay flavor. It mixes the same as the vanilla. Mixed with water it is tasty but has a slight aftertaste that is normal of most protein shakes; not quite as much as others. In milk it tastes like a refreshing strawberry shake.

If you end up with both flavors, mixing a half scoop of each in some milk tastes great.

Turbo Chocolate: The chocolate is a solid chocolate. I’ve had better, I’ve had much worse. Milk makes it tastes great, try adding some peanut butter.

Disclaimer: Supplements are made to help supplement your lifestyle. If you do not have a decent diet and workout routine already in place, this is not going to be a miracle muscle growth formula. This product is intended to supplement amino acids and protein into your diet.
